About this Project
Help For Haiti (helpforhaiti.ca), an initiative of the Rotary Club of West Shore, Victoria, Canada, partners with Haitian orphanages desperately overwhelmed and underfunded since the earthquake of 2010. Our joint goal: to secure the well-being of the children and the viability of the orphanage. Working with ONE orphanage at a time, Help For Haiti and our Haitian partner focus first on ensuring the children are safe, healthy, happy and attending school. Then we devise, fund and implement revenue-producing and cost-saving projects to make the orphanage fully sustainable.

Following the 2010 earthquake, the City of Langford teamed up with the Rotary Club of West Shore to provide assistance to the Baby Jesus Orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Over a number of visits, a team of volunteers, working with the orphanage, were able to make it secure and functional. In 2013, the team was asked to visit the Divine Hand Orphanage (DHO) with 52 children which was on the brink of collapse. Conditions were deplorable and, with the agreement of DHO’s founder, Doris Abraham, Rotary West Shore committed to support and upgrade the orphanage. Thus, helpforhaiti.ca was born as a project of the Rotary Club of West Shore. The tenancy of the orphanage was immediately secured and over the last four years, volunteer teams have made 4 visits to the orphanage and completed numerous improvements.
